Left Alone
•Although DeAngelo became infamous for attacking couples, twenty-eight of the EAR cases were women or girls with no man in the house. All of those showed evidence of stalking, watching, calling, and/or planning.
• Two of the teen victims were babysitting, but had received calls at home, and one had a nightgown stolen from her bedroom a month prior. One teen came home from work to find DeAngelo already in the house—he knew her parents were gone for the weekend, and he was waiting for her. Two different teens, and a set of sisters were attacked after their parents left at dinner time, and another pair of teen sisters while their parents were on vacation.
• Multiple women were attacked in their homes immediately after their husbands left for work, or business trips.
•This pattern was also true for the Irvine murders of Manuela Witthuhn, who was killed while her husband was in the hospital, and Janelle Cruz whose family was on vacation. Janelle’s friend, who left the house shortly before she was attacked, reported that they both heard a noise in the yard but didn't see anyone.
• There is no doubt that DeAngelo picked victims and watched and waited until they were alone—sometimes checking on them for weeks, months, or years.
