AUBURN PD DET. BOON INTERVIEW WITH  JEAN GREGOIRE

• At 9:25 am, Sunday morning, Auburn PD Det. Boon, and PCSO Det. Johnnie Smith arrived at the Gregoire residence in Granite Bay. Jean accused Paul of killing Janet, but acknowledged she was speculating—there was no history of physical abuse in the marriage. However, Jean told Boon a new allegation:  that Paul “beat, threw, and kicked” Fuzz, causing his death.

• Jean relayed her concern that Kristi would be taking her first communion soon, and Jean wanted the grandchildren out of Catholic school, and the church...

• Following Boon and Smith's interview with Jean Gregoire, Paul was instructed by Sheriff Nunes not to do anything other than report for work as normal, and to communicate any updates to Auburn PD. Paul was specifically directed not to participate in any search, investigative activities related to Janets disappearance, or talk to witnesses interviewed by the police about the case. Paul agreed to let them do their job.

•Jean’s statements about Fuzzs death caused enough concern within Auburn PD to open an animal cruelty investigation. At this same time, Paul was the supervisor of PCSOs K-9 unit, and had a contract to provide K-9 services to Auburn PD. This investigation started a rumor in Auburn that Paul had killed Janet’s dog.

• Jean had a history of making false reports to the police that were specific, detailed, and bizarre—so an immediate division emerged among the investigators. APD Chief Willick did not believe Jean, while APD Boon and PCSO Smith took all of Jean’s stories at face value.

Auburn PD Chief Nick Willick and Detective Dan Boon interviewed Paul (at work, at the jail ) and obtained his permission to search the Forest Court residence. Paul consented to the search, and gave the officers his house keys.

At 6:30 pm, APD Willick and Boon entered the residence and conducted a search of the interior (They made no note of any search of the exterior or garage).  In the written report, they did not observe anything unusual, except  that Janet’s wedding rings and watch that were in the basket next to her sink in the master bathroom.

At 8:30 pm, APD Willick & Boon returned the house keys to Paul and advised him of their findings. Paul confirmed that he had not noticed her jewelry in the basket, and that it concerned him because Janet would never have left for the school meeting without her rings.
