Witness Tampering

JEAN GREGOIRE  INTERFERENCE

• On Sunday, September 12, 1982, Detective Boon interviewed Janet’s plastic surgeon, Dr. Leon Burke, about Janet’s state of mind in general, and when he last saw her on the evening of September 7th:

• The following day, Dr. Burke received a phone message from Jean Gregoire, wanting to discuss his comments to Det. Boon. Dr. Burke felt uncomfortable enough with the call that he informed the detective, and Dr. Burke did not return Jeans call, or speak to her

• Janets next door neighbor, and close friend, Frances Myres, explained what happened next:

• Frances Myres wasn’t entirely truthful about her “undercover espionage” activities for Jean. On October 26, 1982, Myres arrived at Dr. Burke’s office for a surgery consultation appointment. However, according to Dr. Burke’s notes, Myres did not actually want any health care herself, but instead asked Dr. Burke to call Janet’s mother: “Jean Gregoire would like me to call her.”

• Dr. Burke’s file shows that he called Jean Gregoire on November 9, 1982, but he made no notes beyond that, and he did not change his witness statement to Auburn PD.

•Mrs. Myres also told Auburn PD that the only knowledge she had of any trouble in Janet’s marriage came directly from Jeannot Janet:

• Mr. Myres, a school administrator in the Auburn area, said that Jean called him at work and tried to get him involved:

• Jean also called Marion Entz, the administrator at Forest Lake Christian School, and asked her to come to the Gregoire residence for a meal. Entz, her husband, and her parents spent two to three hours with the Gregoires.

• Marion Entz also described her meeting with the Gregoires during her interview with APD Det. Ron Eason and Dave Milam on December 1, 1997:

•Entzs 1982-83 interviews had no tapes/transcripts, only police reports, but there was no mention of any person planning to give Janet a ride:

•Jean Gregoires own typed notes from October, 1982 make it clear that by the time she invited the Entzs to her home, she was pushing a new narrative that Paul was going to drive Janet to Forest Lake School:

•Clearly, Jean told Entz her theoryprobably with some overstated level of certainty that made Entz believe Jeans opinion was fact, because during Entzs next interview with police, she had a new, vague memory that maybe Janet said that Paul was going to give her a ride to the school:

•By the time the case against Paul went to Grand Jury in 2006, all three of these witnesses stated that the information given to them by Jean changed their opinion of Paul’s character, Janet’s marriage, the death of Fuzz, and the likelihood that Paul was responsible for Janet’s disappearance.

• They all wanted to be helpful to the prosecution and “get justice for Janet.
