In addition to the 72 hour Auburn PD “wait” policy on missing person reports, it was also the busiest week of the year for Auburn PD with the annual Gold Country Fair taking place in the center of town, near the APD office . The fair started just hours after Janet was reported missing.
• In 1982, Auburn PD had two “detectives”: Greg Odin & Dan Boon.
• The Placer DA’s investigation showed that Auburn PD failed to act on Janet’s disappearance largely because of the extra duty demands of the fair:
