Prosecutor Tellman Closing Argument at Trial

 NEW SUSPECT

In April 2018, DeAngelo was arrested and confessed to crimes committed from 1972 through 1986. This included:

• “The Cat Burglar that strikes Rancho Cordova and East Areas of Sacramento” in 1972-73;

• “The Cordova Meadows Burglar” 1973;

• “The Visalia Ransacker” March 1974 - December 1975;

The kidnapping of 16 year old Beth Snelling from her bed, and murder of her father, Claude Snelling with two shots from a .38 Miroku revolver when he came to Beth’s rescue. September 11, 1975, Visalia.

• The Attempted murder of Visalia PD Agent Bill McGowen when he shot at the officer after being held at gunpoint in a stakeout—December 10, 1975 

• From May 1973-August 1976, DeAngelo was an active duty police officer and Sgt. in Exeter, twelve miles from Visalia. 

In August of 1976, DeAngelo moved to Auburn, and served there until July of 1979.  DeAngelo was fired from APD after he was arrested for shoplifting dog repellant and a hammer from Pay 'N Save on Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights.

• “The East Area Rapist” attacked girls, women, and couples in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, Del Dayo, Carmichael, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Stockton, Foothill Farms, Modesto, Davis, Concord, San Ramon, San Jose, Danville, Fremont, Walnut Creek, and Goleta from June, 1976-October, 1979;

•The shooting murders of Katie and Brian Maggiore in Rancho Cordova on Thursday, February 2, 1978;

The shooting murders of Dr. Alexandria Manning & Dr. Robert Offerman in Goleta on Sunday, December 30, 1979;

The bludgeoning murders of Charlene & Lyman Smith in Ventura on Thursday, March 13, 1980;

The bludgeoning murders of Patrice & Keith Harrington in Dana Point on Tuesday, August 19, 1980;

The bludgeoning murder of Manuela Withuhn in Irvine on Thursday, February 5, 1981 while her husband was in the hospital;

•The shooting and bludgeoning murders of Cheri Domingo & Greg Sanchez in Goleta on Monday, July 27, 1981; and,

The bludgeoning murder of  Janelle Cruz in Irvine on Sunday, May 4, 1986 while her family was on vacation.
